Introduction Post

There are several reasons why I wanted to start this blog. First of all, I had a friend ask me a few months ago to send me some of my writing regarding music such as concert and album reviews. Secondly, I have recently found myself with a lot of free time on my hands, more than I would like, and as I do not do well with idle time, and cannot seem to get my creative-writing bug back, I figured it would be better to do some kind of writing rather than no writing so that I do not get rusty in my skills.

A little about me, my name is Amanda, but I prefer to go by Mandy. I am currently on hiatus from finishing my undergraduate career at Azusa Pacific University. I only have one more class to finish but it’s a class that I don’t wish to take so I put it off and failed it while I was actually in school and now I’m taking a short break before I attempt it again in the summer. When I get my degree it will be in English with a writing emphasis and I find it funny that even though I always mention the writing emphasis part, everyone still asks me if I want to teach and I always answer with a resounding NO! I don’t have the desire or patience to teach, I want to write and while I know that most people cannot make it as a writer, it’s what I love to do and I’ll keep on doing it no matter what.

I write mostly fiction and more specifically it would probably be categorized as young adult paranormal romance – vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc. I know it seems to be a trend right now but I’ve been into this sort of stories since I was a kid. I’m also a rabid reader of the same subject and many others and I enjoy making book suggestions to my friends.

My other passion in life is music. I’ve been singing since I was around 10. I love rock music of all sorts: mostly alternative rock with some metal and punk mixed in. I love listening to music, buying CDs and, most of all, going to concerts.

Right now I consider my life to be in a transition period between college and “real life.” I’m working at a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf downtown and just had my hours dramatically cut, another factor leading to this blog. I’m also living with my mom, two cats and a dog until I have a better job and roommates to move in with, hopefully somewhere like Santa Monica because there doesn’t seem to be anything left for me here in good old Santa Barbara.

So in this blog will be a lot of reviews about books, concerts and albums and maybe some movies or TV shows as well as some personal ranting/diary-like writing. That’s my introductory spiel.
